WHAT IF...
What if somebody informed you that you had broken the law without you knowing it?
What if somebody told you that although you did not know you had broken the law, you were not exempt from the consequences for your crime?
What if somebody told you that a complete stranger was willing to pay the fine for you and that the crime would be completely erased from your record as if it had never been committed?
What if I told you this is a true story? As unbelievable as this story might seem, it is a true story involving real people.
What if I told you that you are one of the people in this story? You might be asking, “Which person am I? Well, I haven’t offered to pay any fines for anyone else, so I can’t be that person. So, I must be the person that committed a crime unknowingly!”
As human beings, we all break the law. Maybe not civil laws, but unfortunately, we break God’s law, and because of that we are labeled criminals, or as the Bible calls us, sinners. As the old saying goes, “Nobody’s perfect!” That actually isn’t just a saying. The Bible tells us that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
What if I told you that there is a fine or a price for not being perfect?
What if I told you that the fine, or price, of sin is eternal death? The Bible tells us that “the wages (price) of sin is death”. This means eternal separation from God in a lake of fire (suffering forever).
What if I told you that somebody did pay the price for your sin? The Bible says that Jesus paid the price for your sin by dying on the cross and shedding his blood.
The Bible tells us “God commendeth (demonstrated) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
What if I told you that to have the price of your sin paid for, all you had to do was believe (place your faith) in the Son of God, Jesus? “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (Jesus), that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
